Financial Plan
We love our bees! And therefore, we want to take good care of them when they occupy our hives. This is why the project will create a good home for the bees while they live with us. In this phase, the project is going to set up the semi-permanent 3 meters by 3 meters structure which will secure the area where the Bee-Hives are going to be kept. This shed will provide a healthy and safe environment for the survival of the bees. Iron Roofing Sheets will be held up by wooden posts and surrounded by wire-mesh for keeping rodents out. A small 2 inch by 2inch trench will surround the shed to keep any ants out. The bee-hives themselves will sit on wooden frames mounted along the inside if the shed, along the wire mesh.
Stage 2
This stage entails purchasing all the relevant equipment and tools necessary to run a bee-keeping venture. This is a pilot program and therefore we want to keep it manageable and controllable and therefore we are only using 5 hives to start off. This will enable to bring on board 3 trainers. We want to create a proof of concept and therefore we want to work with the three trainers to be able co collect the data and also see how the selected trainers from the local community may respond to the training in practice.
Stage 3
This entails monitoring over the next 3 months from setting up the hives, how the hives are performing. Usually a hive may be occupied by bees from 2 weeks onwards. Kwale is lush and green and we are confident the bees will come home within a month. As a hive may be able to produce honey in about 4 months, we will call the trainers for 4 trainings during which we will teach all the necessary information in Apiculture with practical examples form the project!!
We are EXCITED!!!
